Friday Five: 12 April 2019

Welcome to this week’s Friday Five, a quick round up of five things on my mind.

1) IDEA I’M PONDERING

Slowness. I’ve been on vacation this week with my family – a slower paced holiday than the usual once-in-a-lifetime trips I like to plan. And while I’ve been there, I’ve been reading and thinking about slowness. I read In Praise of Slow by Carl Honore (who very kindly commented on my Insta feed when I mentioned the book – nice touch, Mr Honore!) and it made me crave home-cooked meals and a calendar with less on it.

We’ll see how that pans out now I’m back home.

2) BOOK I’M READING

Just about to begin The Path Made Clear by Oprah Winfrey

3) BELIEF I’M QUESTIONING

I’ve always wanted to live in a big house. Don’t ask me why. I didn’t grow up in one and I don’t live in one now, but I’ve always felt the desire to have a McMansion.

After a week in a caravan, where we had the bare essentials and missed almost nothing from home (my daughter missed exactly two things from home – Monkey Puzzle and Alexa!), and where the confined space made it a lot easier to supervise my daughter, it’s enough to make me question this desire. I won’t be moving into a caravan any time soon, but the idea of a smaller, open plan living space certainly has its benefits.

4) DIARY SYSTEM I’M USING

I’m always a paper and pen planner junkie, and I switch my system up a lot. At the moment, I have a Kikki K planner with A5 Filofax page a day inserts. I’m using a colour code system – black for my law firm, blue for my writing, purple for personal. And I adore these page markers which I use to highlight any pages I use often – I have one for my reading list page, for example.

5) APP I’M USING

I’m enjoying the Mention app, which you can set to track any mention of a particular word or phrase online. I use it to track mentions of my pen name online, so I can jump in and comment, thank people for mentioning me, etc.

That’s it for now.
